According to the regulation, athletes are entitled to receive VND45 million (US$2,115) for every gold medal won, while silver and bronze medalists get VND25 million (US$1,175) and VND20 million (US$940) each.
Besides, triumphant athletes at the Games will receive on-the-spot cash bonuses of VND6 million (US$282) for gold, VND4 million (US$188) for silver and VND2 million (US$94) for a bronze medal.
An additional cash incentive worth VND15 million (US$705) is also earmarked for any athlete who breaks a SEA Games record.
Vietnam will send a contingent of 750 officials, coaches and athletes to this year’s SEA Games with the objective of winning more than 70 gold medals and making the overall podium.
The delegation will leave for Myanmar in three groups – on December 4, 7 and 14.
