NDO – State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc beat the drum to announce the opening of the new 2021-2022 school year at the ethnic minorities boarding high school in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai on September 7.

In his speech, the State leader said that 16 million out of the more than 23 million students across the country had to begin the academic year via virtual ceremonies due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thanks to efforts made by the Government and Yen Bai authorities, the school could hold the meaningful event face-to-face, he said, adding that Yen Bai recorded no new COVID-19 infections in half a month.

State President Phuc also spoke highly of Yen Bai for paying attention to education, particularly at ethnic minority boarding facilities. 60% of schools in the province meet the national standards.

He also asked the education sector, particularly boarding schools, to be active in building learning and teaching plans in response to the developments of the epidemic, ensuring safety for teachers and students.

The President also suggested the Ministry of Education and Training and mountainous provinces to consider the model of boarding schools for ethnic minorities as a very important component in the overall strategy of training and developing human resources for remote and difficult areas.

Founded in 1982, the ethnic minorities boarding high school in Yen Bai has educated over 4,000 students to date. In the new school year, there are 12 classes for 422 students from different ethnic groups residing in the five local districts of Van Chan, Luc Yen, Van Yen, Tran Yen, and Yen Binh.

On the same day, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired a meeting with the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee.

As a province with no new COVID-19 infections in half a month, Yen Bai should continue to uphold the recent positive results in COVID-19 prevention and control, the State leader noted.

He underscored that the province holds many potentials, particularly regarding forests, forest land and human resources, and asked the local authorities to continue paying attention to implementing policies for ethnic affairs, promoting its human resources, and preserving the local ethnic groups’ traditional cultures.
