The purpose of the contest is to enhance the value of learning French and create opportunities for cultural exchanges between students from different countries. This is also a way to praise students who are fluent in French and convey the image of a modern language, helping to connect young people in the Francophone community.

The competition is organised by the Conference of the Ministers of Education of French Speaking Countries (CONFEMEN) and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).

In 2021, due to the complicated COVID-19 epidemic worldwide, the Organizing Committee had to move the contest to an online format. Initially, the competition was planned to take place in the Republic of Tunisia.
