Nearly 900,000 students registered for national high school exam

The Ministry of Education and Training on June 27 announced that 887,396 students have registered for the national high school graduation exam, which will be held from June 30 to July 4.

There are 1,482 exam venues with 31,668 rooms across the country. The number of candidates this year saw a decrease of 12% compared to last year (accounting for 118,258 students).

Over 286,000 students registered to use the exam’s results for high school graduation only, reaching 32% of the total candidates; meanwhile 519,497 students registered for high school graduation as well as university and college enrollment, and 81,770 students who had graduated in previous years registered for admission at universities and colleges.

Hanoi has the largest number of registered students with 76,137, while the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau has the least number of candidates with 3,405.

There are 120 examination boards around the country, including 70 clusters hosted by universities (using the exam’s results for high school graduation and university and college entrance) and 49 chaired by local Departments of Education and Training and one by the School Department under the Ministry of Defence for high school graduation.

The exam cluster chaired by Vinh University in Nghe An province received the most registration dossiers (21,691 students) and the one hosted by Thai Nguyen University of Agro-forestry has the least candidates (1,313).

Students will sit for tests from July 1 to 4 in three compulsory subjects - maths, literature and a foreign language - and one optional subject out of physics, chemistry, biology, history or geography.
