NDO - An English language training course in support of Vietnam's ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 opened at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam on August 12.

Funded by the New Zealand Government, the four-week course had the participation of 80 trainees who are officials from different ministries and sectors involved directly in the organisation of Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020.

According to the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam, the course is designed to improve the level of multicultural communication and language skills for the trainees.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung said that this course not only contributes to the preparation for the Vietnam's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020, but also to strengthening and deepening the Vietnam-New Zealand bilateral cooperation relations.

For his part, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Wendy Matthews emphasised that education is an important pillar in the cooperation between New Zealand and Vietnam.

Through this course, New Zealand hopes to contribute to the success of Vietnam's ASEAN 2020 Chairmanship especially when 2020 will be a special year with many activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and Vietnam, he noted.
