Deputy PM attends ceremony marking 60th anniversary of Vinh University

NDO –Vinh University located in Vinh city, the central province of Nghe An held a grand ceremony on September 21 to celebrate its 60th anniversary and receive the first-class Labour Order.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue granted the first-class Labour Order to the university for the second time.

Addressing the ceremony, the Deputy PM congratulated the university for its achievements over the past 60 years, making it one of the top three universities in the central region and a pillar of Vietnam’s higher education system.

Vinh University is also named in the group of key national universities as well as a centre for science and management policy research of the region and the nation, Hue added.

On the occasion, Deputy PM VuongDinh Hue, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha and Secretary of Nghe An provincial Party Committee Nguyen Dac Vinh presented scholarships to needy students with outstanding academic results at the university.

Vinh University, formerly known as Vinh University of Education, was established 60 years ago during the fierce years of the resistance against the US.

The university now has 1,000 staff and nearly 40,000 students, with 45% of lecturers holding a doctoral degree. Vinh University is also among 10 Vietnamese higher education institutions with many articles published in prestigious international journals such as ISI and Scopus.
