The event was held jointly by the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh affirmed the Party and State’s consistent perspective on considering education and training as well as science and technology as national policies of top priority.
The Deputy PM urged all levels and branches, especially the Ministry of Education and Training and the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs, to raise awareness about the importance of education and training, the right to study of children, and policies for the development of ethnic minority human resources.
He also asked the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Training to continue perfecting and implementing policies to improve the quality of human resources in mountainous and ethnic minority areas, improve the capacity of education management staff and teachers, organise the teaching of Ethnic Minority language; and to mobilise business organizations and benefactors to support and create the best conditions for the development of education and training in ethnic minority areas.
At the ceremony, the organising board honoured 120 outstanding ethnic minority students in 2019 from 33 provinces and cities with 27 ethnic groups, such as Tay, Thai, Muong, H'Mong, Nung, Hoa, Gia Rai, E De, Si La, and O Du.
Previously, the outstanding ethnic minority students and youths reported their achievements to Uncle Ho at a ceremony at Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi, on November 12. They were also received by Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.
