The Ministry of Education and Training is considering to delay the start date for the 2020-2021 school year.

According to Nguyen Xuan Thanh, head of the Department of Secondary Education, the delay is expected to provide students with a longer summer vacation and will provide schools with more time for the enrolment of new students.

The back-to-school time is scheduled to be close to the opening ceremony for the new school year which is set for September 5, 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019-2020 school year has been adjusted to conclude before July 15, one and a half months behind schedule.

Meanwhile, the high school graduation exam is scheduled for August 10, thus, schools will need time to mark and grade candidate exams before the start of the new school year.
