The two gold medalists are Nguyen Manh Quan and Tran Quang Vinh, two 12th graders from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students. Notably, Quan received the APhO President’s certificate of merit for recording the highest score at the event, making him the first Vietnamese students to earn the achievement.

Bui Thanh Tan from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in central Nghe An won the silver medal at the APhO 2021; while the three bronze medals went to Nguyen Trong Thuan from Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa Province, Le Minh Hoang from Hanoi University of Science (HUS)’s High School for Gifted Students under the Vietnam National University, and Nguyen Hoang Nam from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students.

Trang Dao Cong Minh from HUS High School for Gifted Students and Nguyen Dac Tien from Bac Ninh Province’s High School for Gifted Students were both awarded certificates of merit.

Hosted by Taiwan (China), this year’s competition was organised online due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, attracting 23 delegations with 181 contestants.

The Vietnamese team joined the competition at the Hanoi National University of Education from May 16-24 under the supervision of two Taiwanese supervisors, during which the contestants took part in two exams lasting five hours each, one theory and one practical.
