This support was provided through the COVAX Facility in close cooperation with UNICEF and WHO Viet Nam as well as the Vietnamese Government.

Guido Hildner, German Ambassador to Vietnam, said that Germany stands with Vietnam in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The two countries can only defeat the pandemic when it is controlled everywhere. Therefore, Germany and the European Union support the campaign of fair and transparent access to the COVID-19 vaccine globally through the COVAX Facility.”

Dr. Kidong Park, the World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative in Vietnam emphasised: “On behalf of the UN, we would like to thank the German Government and people for sharing with the Vietnamese people these precious doses of vaccine.”.

Facing the current challenging epidemic situation in Vietnam, the United Nations continues to support the Government's plan to prioritize vaccination for health workers and frontline workers in the fight against the pandemic, as well as the elderly or those with serious underlying health conditions.
COVAX is a global initiative between the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO), hoping to ensure fair and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.
