Hanoi CDC said that it has sent 22 COVID-19 testing samples to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for genetic sequencing, to proactively monitor and detect the Omicron variant.

As a result, 15 out of 22 samples under genomic sequencing were Delta variant, while seven samples did not have enough viral load for gene sequencing.

The 15 samples of Delta variant were taken in Chuong My (2), Dong Da (2), Quoc Oai (1), My Duc (1), Bac Tu Liem (1), Hoan Kiem (1), Me Linh (1), Gia Lam (1), Nam Tu Liem (1), Ha Dong (1), Thanh Oai (1), Dong Anh (1), and Hai Ba Trung (1).

“These cases are in high-risk areas, so the Hanoi CDC sent samples to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for gene sequencing for early detection of the Omicron variant,” said Deputy Director of Hanoi CDC Khong Minh Tuan.

According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Health Vu Cao Cuong, taking COVID-19 samples in high-risk areas and sending them for gene sequencing is a routine activity in all localities, according to the direction of the Ministry of Health since the appearance of the Omicron variant.
