The 200 honourees represented thousands of people who have regularly donated their blood and platelets. Many of whom have made donations more than 100 times so far.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Tran Ngoc Que, Deputy Director of the National Blood Centre under the NIHBT, expressed his gratitude to the donors for promoting the spirit of compassion and sharing in the community.
He hailed that many donors come from families who have been joining blood and platelets donation programmes for two generations.
In 2021, the NIHBT collected 41,267 units of platelets donated by more than 33,300 people, he reported, adding with pleasure that the number of platelet donors has continued to increase in recent years.
The collected platelets have helped to ensure emergency and treatment needs at nearly 180 hospitals in 26 northern cities and provinces.
The NIHBT started working on separating platelets from whole blood donations in 2000. From receiving a few dozen platelet units in the initial years, the Institute now collects an average of 20,000 units of platelets annually.
