Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam hosted a reception in Hanoi on April 27 to bid farewell to Dr. Kidong Park at the end of his tenure in Vietnam.

The WHO official noted that Vietnamese government responded to the COVID-19 outbreak in a timely, forceful and decisive manner with a robust public health emergency monitoring and response system and highly skilled and dedicated healthcare staff. In addition, the public awareness of the pandemic prevention and control has been raised.

Notably, the success in rapid deployment of the vaccination campaign has made Vietnam one of the countries with the highest vaccination rates in the world, he added.

To date, the COVID-19 pandemic has been controlled effectively and sustainably in Vietnam and the country has moved to the state of flexible and safe adaptation, towards socio-economic recovery and development, said Dr. Kidong Park.

He also noted that he confidently removed his face mask while talking with others in Vietnam for the first time following two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For his part, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam appreciated the WHO and Dr. Kidong Park for their support to COVID-19 prevention and control in Vietnam.

The Deputy PM expressed his hope that he will continue to make great contributions to the cooperation activities between the WHO and Vietnam.
