Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien attended the inauguration ceremony and cut a ribbon to open the hospital.

Covering a total area of 14,000 square metres on Nguyen Van Cu Street, An Binh ward, Ninh Kieu district, the 500-bed hospital was built with a total investment of VND 861 billion (US$38.6 million).

It includes a nine and a four-storey building, housing four areas for health check-ups, administration and logistics, and inpatient and outpatient treatment services.

The new hospital was upgraded from the old 350-bed facility, which was established in 1979.

The upgrade of the hospital will help Can Tho’s healthcare sector to improve its health check-ups and treatment quality for children, while contributing to easing overload in paediatric units at other hospital in the locality, said Director of CanTho Department of Health Bui Thi Le Phi.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien stressed the need to develop a satellite hospital project and deepen professional treatment of neurological disorders, birth defects, genetic disorders and cardiovascular disease.

She also asked the city’s health sector to better its service quality and work out solutions to reduce hospital overcrowding.
