According to Dr. Bach Quoc Khanh, Director of the NIHBT, Thursday’s event kick-started a series of blood donation events prior to the Xuan Hong (Pink Spring) Festival 2018, scheduled to take place from March 4-11.

The major part of this year’s Xuan Hong Festival will be organised at the NIHBT on March 10-11, Khanh said.

Thanks to the pre-Lunar New Year (Tet) communication and mobilisation work, the NIHBT’s blood reserve currently stands at more than 9,500 units of blood, ensuring a supply of blood for emergency and treatment at hospitals for about 10 more days.

During the Lunar New Year period, many medical establishments actively participated in blood donation campaigns, such as Bac Ninh province’s health sector (nearly 1,000 units of blood), Vinh Phuc province’s health sector (nearly 400 units of blood), the Bach Mai Hospital (over 350 units of blood), and the Central Maternity Hospital (nearly 700 units of blood).

Today, the Hanoi Medical University Hospital will launch a voluntary blood donation movement, which is expected to receive 150 units of blood. Similar events will also be organised at several other hospitals across the capital city on February 27.

The donation of blood at the beginning of the Lunar New Year will ensure a supply of blood for treatment at more than 150 hospitals in the northern region, helping to address the situation of blood scarcity over the Tet holiday.
