According to the ministry, malnutrition among Vietnamese children is still high compared to the classification by the World Health Organisation and there is a big difference between regions. Meanwhile, the lack of micronutrients in the community is still prevalent, especially among mothers and children.
In response to these challenges, the Prime Minister approved the National Strategy on Nutrition for the 2011-2020 period, with vision to 2030, aiming to reduce the rate of stunting in children under five to 26% in 2015 and to 23% by 2020.
In joining hands with the Vietnamese Government, Amway Vietnam continues to deploy its “Nutrilite Power of 5” campaign with support from the MoH’s Department of Maternal Health and Children to help children grow healthily from their first years of life.
Accordingly, Nutrilite Little Bits - Amway-developed micronutrient supplement - will be added directly to daily meals to provide full micronutrients for each serving. Each gramme of Nutrilite Little Bits powder will supplement 15 types of micronutrients, compensating for the lack of vitamins and minerals from the daily diet, thus supporting the improvement of nutritional status for children.
In addition to nutritional supplements, the campaign's goal will be to develop training and communication materials aimed towards changing behavioural care for pregnant women and mothers with children under five in order to improve nutrition for children.
The programme’s specialists will organise training classes to provide knowledge and practice related to nutrition for health workers, pregnant women, mothers with children under five and teachers at kindergartens through the implementation of training and communication materials.
Officially launched in 2014, Nutrilite Power of 5 is a social programme by Amway to help raise awareness of child malnutrition. In addition to communication activities on malnutrition, Amway and the MoH’s National Institute of Nutrition have provided over 26,000 boxes of Nutrilite Little Bits for nearly 6,800 children in Bac Giang, Lao Cai, and Thanh Hoa provinces.
From 2019-2020, the project targets to offer over 1 million free Nutrilite Little Bits products to more than 85,000 children in Nghe An and Ha Giang provinces.
Currently, Vietnam is one of 15 countries benefitting from Amway’s 24 projects, targeting to supplement micronutrients to improve nutritional status for 500,000 children, aged from six months to five years, by the end of 2019.
