The event aimed to enhance the implementation of the Circular No.38/2016/TT–BYT issued on October 31, 2016, stipulating measures to promote the breastfeeding at healthcare and neonatal facilities in nine different provinces and cities.
Under the project, healthcare facilities will strictly follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Health on breastfeeding, early essential newborn care (EENC) and Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) methods, contributing to increasing the rate of infants who are breastfed within the first hour after birth and exclusively during the first six months.
Hospitals that are participating will help mothers breastfeed within the first 90 minutes after birth through performing early essential neonatal care, ensuring full breastfeeding before they are discharged from hospitals and are advertised breast milk substitutes.
The MoH will supervise the implementation in hospitals in June and July and award certificates of merit to outstanding hospitals in August.
At the workshop, representatives from the hospitals shared their experience in improving breastfeeding practices and early neonatal care as well as developing the role of health workers in counselling and support of breastfeeding.
