Many of the honourees have donated their blood more than 60 times, including Nguyen Tri Hieu and Tran Thanh Long (70 times), Tran Kinh Quoc (68 times), and Vo Hong My (67 times), all from Ho Chi Minh City.

The organising board also acknowledged donors of rare blood types and those living in remote areas at the event.

The meeting has been held annually since 2008 to pay gratitude and acknowledge volunteer blood donors across the country.

According to the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, nearly 1.4 million units of blood were collected in 2018 with 98.3% of them being donated by volunteers.

On the occasion of the World Blood Donor Day 2019, the seventh blood donation campaign - Hanh Trinh Do (Red Journey) will take place from June 13 to July 28 with the participation of 39 provinces and cities nationwide. Among them, Dak Nong, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Lao Cai and Lai Chau will attend the journey for the first time.

This year’s campaign is the longest edition to be held so far with the largest number of participating localities.
