Nearly 1,000 people practice yoga together to mark the International Day of Yoga

Nearly 1,000 people practiced yoga together at an event held on June 22 at Quan Ngua sports complex in Hanoi to mark the International Day of Yoga (June 21).

The event was jointly held by the Indian Embassy, the Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee, and the Bao Viet Life Insurance Company with the aim to connect the peoples and cultures of Vietnam and India.

According to Rajesh Uike, Rajesh Uike, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indian Embassy, yoga has helped to bring humankind together, and bring people closer together. Through yoga, the Indian land, culture and people has been introduced to international friends.

The mass yoga session was among a series of events as part of the “Yoga - Green for Life” programme 2019 with similar events being held in nine localities across the country, including Vinh Phuc, Da Nang, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria Vung Tau, Can Tho, Tien Giang, and Soc Trang.

Taking place from June 16 to July 15, the programme is expected to attract the participation of 6,000 yoga lovers.
