The information was announced by Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen at the meeting of the national steering committee for prevention and control of the disease held in Hanoi on February 17.

Tuyen said that the Prime Minister declared the Covid-19 an epidemic in three provinces of Thanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa and Vinh Phuc.

Khanh Hoa reported a positive case for Covid-19 on January 17 and it has seen no more cases in the past 30 days. Thus, the province is eligible to announce the end of the epidemic, the health official noted.

Meanwhile, the central province of Thanh Hoa has not recorded any new cases of Covid-19 for 23 days and the northern province of Vinh Phuc has not seen new cases of the disease for seven days.

Tuyen said that the three provinces have been implementing epidemic prevention measures in accordance with the guidance from the Ministry of Health and the national steering committee for the prevention and control of the disease.

If Thanh Hoa sees no more case of Covid-19 in the next five days, it is also eligible to announce the end of the epidemic, Tuyen added.

The Ministry of Health recommends localities nationwide to continue to implement the surveillance, detection and early isolation of suspected cases.
