More donations made to COVID-19 battle

Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Hanoi chapter Nguyen Lan Huong hosted a ceremony on April 9 to receive additional donations from units, worth over VND1.5 billion (US$63,650), for the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.

The latest donations came from Hanoi Police’s Economic Security Department, with VND20 million; the Huong Sac Viet (Vietnam’s beauty) arts delegation, with 20 boxes of medical gloves worth VND18 million; the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Hanoi’s Agencies Block, with 2.5 tonnes of rice and 2,000 masks worth VND40 million; and the Charity and Community Development Fund of the Hanoi Trade Corporation (HAPRO), with VND40 million.

Additional resources for the epidemic battle were also donated by the business community, including the Thanh Long Co., Ltd (Lang Son province), with 2,000 boxes of biscuits worth VND500 million; the Viet Ha Investment and Trading JSC, with 500 barrels of water; the T&T Sport Joint Stock Company, with 4,800 cartons of milk, 2,000 masks and 1,000 donuts; and the Hanel Joint Stock Company, with 10 sets of intubated luminaires worth more than VND910 million.

Speaking at the ceremony, Huong lauded the noble acts of agencies, organisations and enterprises, calling on the philanthropists to continue promoting a sense of collective responsibility and accompanying the city in curbing the spread of COVID-19.

The VFF Committee of Hanoi will coordinate with functional agencies to send forward all the donations to the battle against the epidemic in a public, transparent and timely manner, she stated.

Representatives of Ben Tre province receive a donation of VND1 billion from Thailand's Gulf Energy Development for the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.

* On the same day, the VFF Committee of the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre received VND1 billion (US$42,472) donated by Mekong Wind Power JSC (under the Thailand-based Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited) to support local efforts to combat COVID-19.

Addressing the event, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Cao Van Trong applauded and expressed his deep thanks for the Gulf Energy Development’s kind deed, hoping that the Thai group would continue its development and long-term business in Ben Tre.

* As of April 9 morning, the standing board of the VFF Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has received nearly VND100 billion (US$4.24 million) donated by individuals and organisations for COVID-19 prevention and control (VND87.7 billion) and for the localities hit by saline intrusion (VND11.5 billion).

On April 8 alone, nearly VND13 billion worth of donations were sent to the standing board, including over VND12 billion for the fight against the pandemic.
