According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, 20 patients are being treated at health facilities nationwide and most are in stable condition. Four among them have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once and five tested negative at least twice.
Among the total 355 infections so far, 215 are imported cases that were quarantined upon arrival. The committee’s treatment sub-committee reported that 335 patients (94.4%) have been given the all-clear and there have been no deaths.
All 50 foreign patients detected in Vietnam have been free from the coronavirus, with only Patient 91, a British pilot, still in the rehabilitation process at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, after being announced as clear from COVID-19.
At present, 12,580 people who have had close contact with patients or entered from pandemic-hit areas are quarantined at hospitals, concentrated quarantine facilities, and homes.
More citizens brought home from Japan
On June 30, a flight conducted by budget carrier Vietjet Air brought 225 Vietnamese citizens back home from Japan. The flight was arranged by Vietnamese authorities, the country’s embassy in Japan, Japanese agencies and Vietjet Air.
The passengers included children, the elderly, the ill, pregnant women, and workers with expired labour contracts or without accommodation. The Vietnamese Embassy sent staff members to assist the citizens with boarding procedures at the airport.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, disease prevention measures were carried out throughout the flight. The flight crew and all passengers were also given heath examinations upon landing at Da Nang International Airport and then placed under quarantine in line with regulations.
Patient 326 not a re-positive case
Also, on June 30, the Ho Chi Minh City Centre for Diseases Control (HCDC) announced that Patient 326, who was previously identified as a relapse case, was not re-positive for the coronavirus. Therefore, HCDC proposed to terminate health monitoring for residents who are the patient’s neighbours on the 12th floor of an apartment in Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Thanh District.
On June 29, the centre recorded a sample taken on the female patient a day earlier (the 20th day after her discharge following her full recovery from COVID-19) with unclear results. However, to limit the risk, HCDC activated the rapid response system as in a case of doubt for a suspected infection, while conducting an expedited investigation to identify her close contacts and taking samples from them for testing.
On the morning of June 30, all the test results of the patient, her three family members and 20 neighbours living on the same floor were negative for SARS-CoV-2. The patient will continue to be monitored daily until the end of the 30th day after her discharge.
Although the COVID-19 epidemic has been put under control in Vietnam, HCDC recommended that local people continue to maintain the disease prevention measures in a “new normal” state under the direction of the Prime Minister. Particular attention should be given to hand hygiene to prevent transmission of disease, including COVID-19.
