Strict measures deployed to prevent COVID-19 spread

A wide ranges of strict measures are urgently deployed in localities across the nation, especially in areas with newly-detected COVID-19 infections, to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the community.

On Sunday afternoon (Aug 2), Quang Nam Province decided to temporarily blockade a residential area in Ha Lam Town, Thang Binh District, for 14 days, starting from 0:00 on August 3, as a local family with three positive cases for the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been detected. The trio was found in relation to the Da Nang Hospital in Da Nang City, which is now the hotbed of new COVID-19 outbreaks in Vietnam.

Also, on Sunday, similar blockades was applied on four other residential areas with over 1,370 households and nearly 5,200 people in Dien Ban Town.

Earlier on Sunday morning, the army’s chemical force in collaboration with Chemical Battalion 78 under the Military Region 5 sprayed disinfectant chemicals in Hoi An City and Dai Loc District.

Quang Nam has recorded 25 cases positive for SARS-CoV-2 (ranked second after Da Nang) and more than 17,000 related cases are in isolation.

* Immediately after the discovery of a positive case with SARS-CoV-2 (Patient No. 566) in Bui Village, Hoa Tien Commune, Hung Ha District, the Thai Binh Province authorities have conducted a thorough investigation of the outbreak, while requiring local people returning from the epidemic areas to carry out medical declarations, isolation and health monitor. The province has temporarily suspended non-essential services and other cultural and sports activities, while closing local major relics.

* In a similar move, from 0:00 on August 3, Vinh Phuc Province will suspend unessential services, such as karaoke, massage, and bars, while halting mass gatherings and continuing to trace returnees from Da Nang from July 1 to 28.

* On Sunday morning, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai City (Quang Ngai Province) isolated two residential areas in Le Hong Phong Ward in relation to Patient No. 590. The blockade will last for 28 days.

* As of 18:30 on August 2, Thua Thien Hue Province recorded no local positive cases of SARS-CoV-2. Hue Central Hospital Base 2 in Phong Dien District is treating 18 COVID-19 patients who were transferred from Da Nang and Quang Nam. The hospital continues to strengthen its medical equipment and staff to receive and treat the infected cases in the central region and the Central Highlands, contributing to easing the overload on local hospitals.

* Local authorities in Thua Thien Hue, Ha Nam, Quang Tri have decided to halt unessential services and crowded activities to prevent COVID-19 spread.

* Over 15,000 medical masks, 350 medical protective suits and hand sanitisers have been donated by Aikya Pharma Group and its member units to reporters working in the COVID-19 hotbed of Da Nang.

* As of 12 pm on August 2, Hanoi recorded 83,937 people who have returned from Da Nang from July 8 until now. The capital city has provided 80,000 COVID-19 quick tests to local health authorities, which have tested 67,746 people.

* In the face of the complicated COVID-19 outbreak, Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee requested to implement strict social distancing measures for 14 days, from 0:00 on August 3 to 16 in Buon Ma Thuot City.

* On August 2, the Ministry of Health proposed that the local health sector further strengthen epidemic prevention and control solutions, especially in testing for people with risk factors, with about 1.4 million people returning from Da Nang.

* On the same day, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son inspected the construction of a field hospital for COVID-19 treatment at Tien Son Sports Palace. Son also inspected the concentrated isolation area at the Bau Tram dormitory, Lien Chieu District, and other camps in Ngu Hanh Son District.
