PM approves national strategy on ending AIDS by 2030

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recently approved the National Strategy on Ending AIDS by 2030.

The Strategy aims to promote HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities to reduce the number of new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths, and put an end to the AIDS epidemic in Vietnam by 2030, as well as minimise the impact of the epidemic to the socio-economic development.

Specifically, communication activities will be expanded and renewed, the rate of people with high-risk behaviours accessing HIV prevention services will reach 80% by 2030; forms of HIV testing counselling and testing will be expanded and diversified while community-based HIV testing and self-testing will be promoted; the rate of people with HIV in the community knowing their status will reach 95% by 2030.

At the same time, the Strategy aims to expand and improve the quality of HIV/AIDS treatment, strengthen the capacity of the HIV/AIDS prevention and control system at all levels; as well as ensure human resources and finance for HIV/AIDS prevention and control.

The Strategy also set out 11 groups of solutions including solutions for treatment and care for people with HIV.
