The latest statistic from the committee, announced Thursday morning (Sep 17), showed that Vietnam has gone through 15 straight days without any coronavirus infections in the community, reporting no new cases detected as of this morning.
The country has confirmed 1,063 SARS-CoV-2 infections. Of the total, 691 were infected with the coronavirus domestically, including 551 linked with central Da Nang City since the latest wave of coronavirus broke out there on July 25.
A total of 936 patients have recovered while 35 died from complications related to the disease. Most of the fatalities were of elderly patients with serious underlying health conditions.
Among the patients still receiving treatment, 16 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 12 others twice and 18 thrice. Three patients are currently in critical condition.
There are 32,417 people who had close contact with confirmed cases or came from pandemic-hit regions under quarantine at present, including 471 in hospitals, 15,591 in other quarantine sites and 16,355 at home or accommodation facilities.
To date, Vietnam conducted rRT-PCR tests for COVID-19 detection on more than 1.2 million people. From July 23 to September 15, there were 645,787 tests performed, accounting for 59.6%. In which, Da Nang performed 152,202 tests, followed by Hanoi with 124,439 tests and Ho Chi Minh City with 122,452 tests.
Following the direction of the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the Ministry of Health has developed guidance on surveillance and SARS- CoV-2 testing for entry to Vietnam in a “new normal” state with the resumption of international commercial flights between Vietnam and a selection of foreign partners, which started on September 15.
The ministry also continues to disseminate and guide the implementation of epidemic prevention measures in the new situation, stricter measures for medical establishments, as well as tightened control over the entry and exit across the border line.

On September 16, the Red Cross Society of Da Nang City provided financial assistance of VND318 million to support 113 households in the wards of Thuan Phuoc, Binh Hien and Binh Thuan in Hai Chau District. The beneficiaries are households suffering from reduction or loss of incomes due to COVID-19 and have not yet received support from the Government and other sources.
This is an additional component of a livelihood support programme for local people affected by the pandemic, within the framework of a COVID-19 epidemic response project funded by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies supporting through the Vietnam Red Cross Society. Before that, 104 households in three wards of Nai Hien Dong, An Hai Bac and Tho Quang in Son Tra District received support from the project to the total value of VND302 million.
