Stepping up measures against spread of COVID-19

Localities across the nation are bracing against the spread of new COVID-19 infections in the community.

On May 9, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh visited and inspected COVID-19 prevention and control in Tay Ninh Province.

Tay Ninh authorities informed that across its border line, anti-epidemic posts have increased to 136, with nearly 1,000 officers and soldiers patrolling around the clock. The southern province has developed a plan to establish 32 isolation zones, accommodating up to 10,000 people.

Inspecting the border lines along the districts of Tan Bien and Ben Cau, Deputy PM Binh presented gifts and encouraged the military and the border guards to do well the work of combating illegal entry and fighting against the epidemic.

He asked the province to seriously implement the instructions and regulations of the Party and State on the work, saying that the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairperson of the Provincial People's Committee must be accountable to the Secretariat and Prime Minister on this work.

Facing the complicated developments of the epidemic, some localities have raised epidemic warnings to a higher level, with social distancing orders in place to reduce the risk of community infection.

On May 9, in Ha Tien City (Kien Giang), the local authorities held a professional rehearsal for receiving and handling COVID-19 infected cases, with support from professional staff of Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the afternoon of the same day, Hanoi City People's Committee Chairman Chu Ngoc Anh checked the epidemic zoning work in Kim Son Commune (Gia Lam District), where four new infections found in relation to the outbreak in Thuan Thanh District in the neighbouring province of Bac Ninh.

The Hanoi chairman ordered Gia Lam District to raise the warning level higher, focusing on the danger of epidemic infiltration into the capital city from epidemic outbreaks in neighbouring areas of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Hung Yen.

The chairperson of the People's Committee of Hung Yen Province has directed My Hao Town to implement social distancing order under Directive 16 of the Prime Minister from 0:00 on May 10, with prevention work tightened in medical facilities, industrial zones and production and business establishments.

As Bac Ninh Province has applied social distancing measures across Thuan Thanh District, starting from 2 pm on May 9, the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control recommended that all people who have departed from Thuan Thanh since April 28, especially from the communes of Mao Dien and Xuan Lam, should practice self-isolation at home and make medical reports.

Immediately after the first two infection cases found in the area, Hoa Binh City (Hoa Binh Province) immediately blocked and set up a quarantine post for a residential in Dong Tien Ward, Hoa Binh City where there duo live. The People's Committee of Hoa Binh City issued a document to suspend the catering service from 16:00 yesterday.

Bac Giang Province urgently quarantined hamlets 6 and 7 and the My Dien 2 residential area in Nenh Town, Viet Yen District, where four workers found to be positive for SARS-CoV-2 are living.

The People's Committee of Yen Lac District, Vinh Phuc Province, has decided to quarantine the entirety of Yen Lac Town for 15 days from 0:00 on May 9 and set up 11 epidemic control posts. The Standing Committee of Vinh Phuc Provincial Party Committee has decided to deploy more isolated establishments.

Quang Ninh Province has warned locals, traders and those at restaurants in Ha Long, Quang Yen and Cam Pha that have had contact and received goods from Patient no. 3,260 in Hung Yen province from April 24 to May 7 should immediately carry out home isolation and report to local health authorities. The cities of Ha Long and Cam Pha have quickly deployed disinfection and blocked the sites related to the case.

From May 8 to the morning of May 9, Bach Mai Hospital base 2 (in Ha Nam Province) has received more than 200 COVID-19 patients from the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases base 2 in Hanoi’s Dong Anh District. The hospital has prepared a separate building with modern equipment, machines and 50 beds ready to handle in case of complications or severe developments among the patients.

On May 9, the Ministry of Education and Training announced that the Minister of Education and Training has issued urgent instructions requesting education and training establishments to thoroughly follow instructions from the competent authorities on COVID-19 response work in schools. So far, nearly 30 provinces and cities have allowed students to temporarily remain absent from school and switch to online teaching and learning to avoid COVID-19 infection. Some localities and schools have conducted online tests for the second semester to soon complete the school year agenda.
