Health ministry urges for building master plan in response to COVID-19

The Ministry of Health has urged for the development of an overall plan to deal with the scenario if Vietnam had 30,000 COVID-19 cases, while continuing to ensure safety in COVID-19 vaccination.

The ministry held an online conference on response to COVID-19 emergencies on May 11, during which participants discussed social distancing and quarantine procedures in hospitals, COVID-19 treatment hospitals, as well as strategies on testing, infection control and safe vaccination.

At the event, the ministry asked localities to train, develop and organise testing plans as well as ensure funding sources for epidemic prevention and control.

The ministry noted that local health departments need to develop response scenarios, such as in the absence of an outbreak, in sporadic infections, or in a widespread state, however, anti-epidemic should not be extreme nor affect people's lives and local socio-economic development.

Regarding the preparation of building field hospitals, local health departments should proactively propose to the local authorities and be ready in human resources, equipment and drugs. Hospitals need to strictly perform the screening and classification of patients, while ensuring social distancing in hospitals.

K Hospital has moved 500 patients and their family members to Hanoi High Tech Vocational College for isolation. Currently, in the three facilities of K Hospital in Hanoi, there are about 3,000 isolated people. The hospital is apply social distancing and accelerating tracing, zoning and sampling. All isolates are being tested for the second time.

To dealt with the spread of the coronavirus, Hanoi has decided to shut down all beer clubs under a decision released on May 11. All beer clubs will be closed until further notice, while temporary street markets and vendors will be removed from outdoor areas to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Vinh Phuc Province has decided to use the facilities of the Vinh Phuc Obstetrics and Paediatrics Hospital (in Dong Van Commune, Yen Lac District and Hop Thinh Commune, Tam Duong District) as field hospital No. 2, and to requisition four dormitory blocks of the University of Transport Technology (Vinh Phuc campus) to serve as a centralised isolation base.

Hai Phong City has decided to stop passenger transportation by inland waterways between Hai Phong and the provinces of Quang Ninh, Thai Binh and Hai Duong.

On the afternoon of May 11, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee issued a document requesting to suspend the reception of citizens at citizen reception offices in the province until further notice. Individuals, agencies and organisations should send complaints and denunciations to competent agencies for settlement via post.

From 0:00 on May 12, Da Nang has suspended passenger transportation by car on fixed routes to the provinces of Phu Tho, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Binh Thuan. Regarding a new COVID-19 case found in Son Tra District, the local competent forces quickly tracked close contacts to the patient and disinfected places where the patient lives and arrived. From 5 pm on May 11, the local functional forces conducted a medical blockade and isolation in An Don Industrial Park where the patient works and collected samples for COVID-19 testing on the related cases overnight.

On May 11, the Ca Mau authorities re-established checkpoints on several highways for people and vehicles entering and returning to the locality. From 00:00 on May 11, non-essential service facilities in the province have also stopped working, along with religious activities and crowded gatherings.

On May 11, Secretary of the Thai Binh Provincial Party Committee Ngo Dong Hai and other leaders of the province visited and presented gifts to the army and police posts on duty against COVID-19 in Thai Binh.

The Border Guard High Command of the southwestern province of Tay Ninh held a ceremony on May 11 to hand over medical supplies for COVID-19 prevention and control presented by the Vietnam Border High Command to Cambodia. The medical supplies, including 250,000 medical masks and 15,000 protective suits, aim to support the military and public security forces of Cambodia as well as Cambodians of Vietnamese origin in the neighbouring country in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
