June 11: Over 9,900 COVID-19 infections and 57 related deaths recorded

As of 5 pm on June 11, Vietnam has recorded a total of over 9,900 COVID-19 infection cases and 57 deaths, the two latest fatalities both suffering from severe malignancies.

The 56th death is Patient 4115, 65 years old, from Ninh Binh province. The patient had a history of cervical cancer with metastases in the abdominal lymph nodes in March 2020, and had six courses of chemotherapy and radiation. The patient died on June 10 with a diagnosis of septic shock, pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2, invasive candidiasis, and cervical cancer with metastasis in the abdominal lymph nodes.

The 57th death is Patient 3595, 59, from Ha Nam province. The patient had a history of advanced gallbladder cancer with liver metastases. The patient died on June 10 with a diagnosis of septic shock, pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 with the background of advanced gallbladder cancer.

As of noon, the country recorded 82 new cases of COVID-19, including one imported case that was quarantined upon arrival in Tay Ninh province, pushing the national count to 9,917.

Of the domestic cases, 45 were found in Bac Giang, 18 in Ho Chi Minh City, nine in Bac Ninh, five in Hanoi, and four in Ha Tinh, the Ministry of Health said.

As of noon on June 11, the number of domestic and imported infections stood at 8,287 and 1,630, respectively. Of the total, 6,717 were recorded since the fourth wave of COVID-19 hit the country on April 27.

Seventeen provinces have gone through 14 consecutive days without new cases. They are Yen Bai, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Quang Nam, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Dak Lak, Nam Dinh, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Son La, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Hung Yen.

So far, a total of 3,708 patients have been given the all-clear from coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

Among the active patients, 267 have tested negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 96 twice and 55 thrice.

On the same day, the chairperson of the People's Committee of Tien Giang province signed a decision on the implementation of strict social distancing across the whole province, starting from 0:00 on June 12 until further notice.

The order aims to deal with the complicated development of the COVID-19 epidemic and to protect people's health. Locals are suggested to not to gather in large numbers, only leaving their houses if absolutely necessary.

Bac Giang province is implementing a plan to bring workers from other provinces and cities who work in Bac Giang to temporarily return to their places of permanent residence, in order to help the province reduce its difficulties as it has to both ensure the prevention and control of the epidemic, while also serving tens of thousands of workers who have not returned to work yet.

Vehicles are to pick up workers from Bac Giang from June 12 to 15. Employees returning to their places of residence are required to strictly comply with all regulations of the Ministry of Health.

Fund-raising programmes to support the national COVID-19 vaccine fund in the homeland were launched by Vietnamese embassies in Tanzania, Mexico, and South Africa on June 10.

On the morning of June 11, in Hanoi, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a ceremony to receive donations worth VND500 million from the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic to support the Vietnam COVID-19 Vaccine Fund.
