55 new domestic COVID-19 cases confirmed

The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 55 more locally-infected COVID-19 cases on the morning of June 23, pushing the national tally to 13,782.

Of the new cases, 51 were found in Ho Chi Minh City along with two each in Bac Giang Province and Nghe An Province.

To date, Vietnam has logged 12,065 domestically-transmitted infections and 1,717 imported cases. As many as 10,495 local infections had been confirmed since the fourth wave of outbreaks hit the country on April 27.

Since April 29, over 5.9 million people have received COVID-19 tests.

Eighteen provinces that were previously hit by the pandemic have gone through 14 consecutive days without new infections.

The MoH said the number of recoveries reached 5,546, while the death toll related to the disease now stands at 69.

Among the active patients, 377 have tested negative to coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 132 twice and 141 thrice.

On June 22, an additional 107,772 people received COVID-19 vaccine shots nationwide. So far, over 2.5 million vaccine doses have been injected. The number of people to have received their full two shots is 133,843.

Facing the complicated developments of the epidemic, on June 22, Yen My District in Hung Yen Province continued to establish medical isolation areas on Yen My Town and Trung Hung Commune, with the quarantine period lasting from 12:00 on June 22 until further notice.

In Vinh Long Province, after recording the first COVID-19 case in the current wave, the Mekong Delta locality has decided to raise its pandemic prevention level, focusing on reviewing 100% of medical examination and treatment areas in local medical centres and private health facilities.

On June 22, Nhon Trach District's Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control coordinated with Dong Nai Province Centre for Disease Control to temporarily place a residential area in Dai Phuoc Commune under blockade in relation to a local COVID-19 infection. There are 300 households with a total of around 1,500 people in the blockade area.

On the same day, Ha Giang Province repatriated over 1,800 guest workers working in Bac Giang back to their hometowns. Immediately after arriving in Ha Giang City, all citizens gave their samples for COVID-19 testing and were sent to concentrated isolation camps for a 14-day quarantine, during which they were provided with free food, accommodation and necessary personal items.

From June 22, Quang Nam Province will apply concentrated isolation on people coming to/staying/returning from Binh Duong Province. Quang Nam is currently managing and supervising more than 5,140 people coming from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to Quang Nam, 214 of whom are in concentrated medical isolation. Currently, 4,880 others have been sampled and tested negative.

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has guided the organisation of the 2021 national high school graduation exams in the context of strengthened COVID-19 prevention measures. Accordingly, candidates are informed about relevant contents (registration number, test scores, exam rooms, exam time and exam rules) via email, website or text message. The department required the arrangement of 24 candidates per each examination room, and each student sitting at a table or ensuring safe distance from each other.

Bac Ninh Province has ordered the highest level of safety against COVID-19 for the upcoming high school graduation exams in the northern province. In 2021, the province has 16,338 candidates taking the exams. The province has established 27 test venues with 705 exam rooms and 15 backup locations, all of which have been disinfected. Candidates participating in the exams are tested for SARS-CoV-2 one day before the exams.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long has decided to award certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in information and communication on COVID-19 prevention and control, including a collective and 65 individuals who are reporters, editors and cameramen from press agencies across the country.

Yesterday, more donations were made to support the nation’s efforts in fighting against COVID-19, with Intimex Group donating VND 1.2 billion to the COVID-19 Vaccine Fund, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) has transferred VND400 billion to the fund, while member units of the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) have donated VND4.45 billion to the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Fund. As of June 22, units in the transportation industry have transferred more than VND2.2 billion to the Vietnam Transport Union Charity Fund to support the COVID-19 Vaccine Fund.

The Standing Committee of Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee has agreed to support Nghe An Province with VND1 billion for the COVID-19 fight. Vietnam Fatherland Committee of Thanh Hoa Province has also transferred VND1 billion to support Ha Tinh Province in the fight.
