Defence Minister gives encouragement to Vietnamese team for Army Games

General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of Defence on August 1 sent an encouragement letter to the Vietnamese team participating the 2021 International Army Games and the Military-Technical Forum (ARMY-2021).

In his letter, the defence minister wrote that Vietnam’s participation at the two events is a highlight in the country’s defence diplomacy, contributing to enhancing friendship exchange and cooperation between the Vietnamese People's Army and armies of the participating countries while helping to maintain and develop the traditional relations between Vietnam and the Russia.

The events will also province an opportunity for Vietnamese soldiers to demonstrate their capacity, bravery, will and determination as well as to learn experience to bolster practice and master modern weapons and equipment.

While complimenting efforts made by the team during the intensive training to prepare for the event, he asked the team to stay united and creative during the competition in order to achieve the best results.

He also requested them to uphold the fair-play spirit to promote the glorious tradition of Vietnamese People’s Army as well the land and people of Vietnam among international friends.

Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People’s Army) Online Newspaper has launched a special page to cover provide readers with full coverage of Vietnamese team’s activities at the Army Games 2021.

The page will also update daily highlights of the Army Games, introduce outstanding individuals and teams at the event, as well as report on the opinions from experts, athletes, and international friends about the event.

Earlier, a send-off ceremony was held on July 26 for Vietnam’s artillery team, who are set to leave for Kazakhstan on August 3 for the 2021 Army Games. It is the second year Vietnam has attended the Games’ Masters of Artillery Fire event.

According to the Ministry of Defence of Russia, this year’s Army Games will be held from August 22 to September 4. A total of 277 teams from 41 countries and territories will compete across 34 categories.

At the 2020 Army Games, teams from the Vietnam People’s Army gained outstanding results and surpassed their set targets by winning three bronze medals and a champion’s cup in Group 2 of the Tank Biathlon event.
