NDO – The Ho Chi Minh City authorities hosted a spring gathering on January 25 for Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) who returned home from abroad to celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

In his speech, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Van Mai briefed the participants on the socio-economic achievements of Ho Chi Minh City in 2021 as well as the city’s development goals and orientations for 2022.

He highlighted the tremendous efforts made by the local authorities and people along with the support of the business community and the contributions of OVs to drive back the COVID-19 pandemic, stabilise social welfare and people’s livelihoods, and revive economic growth.

However, he acknowledged the city has suffered heavy losses and has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, thus he called on the Vietnamese community abroad to contribute ideas and opinions to help the city’s authorities in overcoming the difficult period of time.

He highly appreciated the OVs’ remarkable support to the city’s development, and took the occasion to extend his best wishes for a happy and joyful Tet festival to the OVs.

At the event, Ho Chi Minh City’s authorities presented certificates of merit to outstanding OVs in recognition of their significant contributions to the city in recent years.
