Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos meets former Lao students in Vietnam

The Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in Laos on January 29 held a meeting with former Lao students studying in Vietnam since 1959 on the occasion of Vietnamese Tet 2022.

Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung expressed his pleasure to meet with former Lao students who studied in Vietnam as well as Vietnamese students who are studying in Laos in the atmosphere of the upcoming Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tet).

He emphasised that 2022 is of special significance to the people of Vietnam and Laos as the two countries will jointly organise activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

He also highlighted the role and contributions of Lao students studying in Vietnam to nurturing the relationships between the two countries, affirming that education and training is a priority in the policies of both countries.

Former Director of the Lao National Assembly's Legal Research Institute, Khampheuy Panmalaythong, representative of Lao students in Vietnam expressed his emotion in joining the meeting, especially ahead of the traditional New Year of Vietnam.

He noted that the event is an opportunity for former Lao students of different generations to meet and review unforgettable memories during their time studying in Vietnam. On behalf of the generations of Lao students studying in Vietnam, he expressed his deep gratitude to the Vietnamese Party, State and people for always giving great support to Laos in general and Lao students in particular.

At the meeting, delegates participated in making “banh chung” (Vietnamese square sticky rice cake) to welcome the Tet holiday.
