The event took place on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to the island in May 1961.

Co To Island is the only place that Uncle Ho allowed to have a statue erected in his honour while the leader was alive.

The memorial site dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh on Co To Island was built in 1968 and recognised as a national site in 1997.

Following the late leader’s teachings, Co To Island has been transformed from a poor island into a “blue gem” of Vietnam’s north-eastern region. The island has been connected to the national grid while transport to and from the mainland has also become much safer and more convenient.

The island is striving to become a model new rural area and a high-quality marine tourism centre.

On the occasion, Co To Island also kicked off the 2022 tourism season.
