Addressing the opening ceremony, State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan stressed that the action month plays a significant role in implementing the Politburo’s Directive on enhancing Party leadership in raising, educating and protecting children. It is also an opportunity to communicate and raise public awareness about caring for, educating and protecting children, she said.

The State leader asked Party Committees and authorities at all levels, as well as organisations, families and communities to make greater efforts to protect and support disadvantaged children, address social crimes related to children, and implement national programmes for children.

Vice President Doan wished all children a happy and safe summer holiday and encouraged them to work hard to achieve good results in their studies during the next school year.

On the occasion, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children received nearly VND10 billion (US$480,000) from five domestic and foreign donors for projects and programmes supporting disabled and disadvantaged children.

The fund also presented VND1 billion to the Hanoi Children’s Fund to repair school classrooms and playgrounds, and gave bicycles to 60 poor and ethnic minority children who recorded outstanding academic results.
