The conference was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Minister-Chairman of the GCEMA Giang Seo Phu reported that in 2013, the Government issued Decision 449/QD-TTg on the Strategy for Ethnic Work to 2020, and approved an action plan to fulfil objectives stated in the strategy.

The strategy aims to develop fundamental socio-economic infrastructure facilities including transport routes to link with specialised goods production areas, villages and communes, and to connect different regions and provide power on a regular basis while building new rural areas. It also aims to boost production, hunger eradication and poverty reduction efforts. The action plan covers policies to attract investment, encourage businesses to employ and provide vocational training and job opportunities for ethnic workers.

In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged participants to actively adhere to the Government-approved action plan on the strategy, as ethnic work is a responsibility of the entire political system. He also asked the Government’s Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs to devise policies and guide all relevant parties during the implementation.
