The construction is one phase of the project, begun on November 18, 2012, to tunnel through Ca Mountain Pass on National Highway 1A, connecting the central provinces of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa.

The VND15.6 trillion tunnel project has a total length of 13.4 kilometres and includes two subsidiary tunnels, including Deo Ca, which runs for about four kilometres, and Co Ma for 500 metres. Five linking bridges will also be erected to complete the project.

The completion of the tunnel is expected to shorten travel times and reduce traffic congestion while boosting socio-economic development and ensuring the security and defence of the central region.

Bridge 1, a part of the Ca Mountain Pass tunnel project, also opened to the public yesterday.
