Vietnam alters air routes following MAS flight crash

The CAAV asked the Vietnam Airlines Corporation to check all its flights between Vietnam and European countries, and map out detours around Ukraine’s flight information regions, especially its eastern region and Simferopol Flight Information Region.

The corporation was urged to direct flight procedure units at international airports in Vietnam to keep close watch on flight plans and advise airlines on diverting their flights around Ukraine’s flight information regions.

At the same time, the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation and airport authorities were requested to work closely with airlines and flight procedure units in guiding crew staff along detour routes.

The ill-fated flight MH17, en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, crashed in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border on July 17, taking the lives of 298 passengers and crew on board.

According to the Malaysian Airlines, the victims include 154 Dutch, 27 Australians, 28 Malaysians, 12 Indonesians, nine UK nationals, four Germans, four Belgians, three Filipinos, and one Canadian. The nationalities of 41 other victims remained unconfirmed.
