Scientific conference on oral and maxillofacial surgery opens in Hanoi

The three-day event, which is organised annually by the Vietnam Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (VAOMS), Hanoi Central Oral and Maxillofacial Hospital and the FDI World Dental Federation, attracted over 1,000 delegates from 17 different countries.

At the gathering, local and international scientists are sharing professional experiences in oral and maxillofacial surgery, including aesthetic restorations, periodontal, dental implants and correction, diagnostic imaging, orthopedic jaw surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, phonetic treatment for children with congenital lip palate, dental prophylaxis and immunotherapy.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen, Viet Tien said the event created an opportunity for dentists to access and share new professional knowledge, skills and techniques with their colleagues, helping Vietnamese dentists learn from the experiences to improve the quality of oral treatment to patients.

Over 100 booths at the exhibition showcase advanced dental equipment, tools and materials and popular dental care products of leading dental producers around the world.

According to VAOMS President, Trinh Dinh Hai the local oral and maxillofacial sector has updated and applied advanced professional techniques to offer effective treatment to patients and help them save costs when being treated domestically. A dental care programme has been also implemented and maintained in many provinces and cities across the country to provide comprehensive, regular and stable dental care at school. Vietnam is the first country in Asia using fluoride in preventive care of tooth decay, in the community in Lao Cai province, since 2011.
