The Thuong Duc victory 40 years ago had a strategic significance, helping the Politburo and the Military Central Commission make updated assessments and proper decisions to carry out the historic 1975 Spring Offensive, and making an important contribution to the liberation of the south and national reunification on April 30, 1975.

With a total cost of VND8.9 billion (nearly US$420,000), construction of the Thuong Duc Victory Monument was sponsored by the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank).

The monument, which sits on a 1,600 sq.metre site, was designed by sculptor Pham Van Hang in co-ordination with the Quang Nam design consultancy.
