The US$435,000 project will provide functional rehabilitation and community integration for 500 children with disabilities in nine communes in Quang Trach and Le Thuy districts, and Dong Hoi city, between now and December 2016.

The Dong Hoi Disabled Children Education Centre will be provided with equipment for conducting basic screening tests for disabilities, particularly hearing impairments.

Basic medical equipment will be supplied to specialised schools, communal medical stations, and disabled children based on their needs.

The objective of the project is to establish a strategic partnership between the education and health sectors to detect disabilities early and implement measures to increase disabled children’s access to education and healthcare.

Quang Binh is home to approximately 45,000 people with disabilities, including 4,000 children. Unfortunately, access to social activities, education and healthcare services is often limited for people with disabilities.

The project will help remove these barriers through educating disabled children and increasing their access to high-quality healthcare.

The seminar was jointly held by the organisation Caritas Switzerland and the Association for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in Quang Binh.
