Poverty reduction project launched in Quang Nam

Nhan Dan/VNA – Approximately 7,500 households in the central province of Quang Nam will benefit from a poverty reduction project launched in the locality by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the World Bank on September 11.

The effort is part of a US$165 million regional project to alleviate poverty in the four Central Highlands provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong; Gia Lai and Kon Tum; and the central provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, during the 2014-2019 period.

The project will be implemented in 15 communes in Quang Nam’s three mountainous districts of Nam Tra My, Phuoc Son, and Nam Giang, with an estimated capital of US$12.1 million, of which US$11 million is provided by the WB in the form of official development assistance.

The objective is to improve the living conditions of residents in poor communes through a diversification of strategies, as well as upgrading infrastructure in the target areas.

At the end of the project, the number of poor households that access State services should have increased by at least 20%, and the food and non-food consumption rate should have risen by 10%.
