The event is expected to draw 300 competitors, aged under 22, from 10 ASEAN member states. They will compete in 23 occupational skills and two performance areas, an increase of two skills in comparison with the 2012 event.

The biennial competition will offer an opportunity for the bloc’s members to show off their vocational skills and advanced technologies in this field. The opening ceremony will take place at My Dinh National Stadium on October 23 and the closing ceremony will be held on October 28.

To prepare for the event, Vietnam organised its national skill competition in May, three months earlier than previously. The Organising Board will select 51 from the best 77 performers at the national event to take part in the ASEAN competition.

Vietnam first hosted the ASEAN competition in 2004, topping the medal tally with 13 of the 18 gold medals. At the 9th event in Indonesia in 2012, the country came second, with 44 workers competing in 22 skills.
