Poverty reduction project launched in Dak Nong

Nhan Dan/VNA – People, especially ethnic minority groups, in 20 communes of four districts in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong will benefit from a poverty reduction program launched in the locality on September 16.

This is part of a regional project worth nearly VND3.5 trillion (US$165 million) to alleviate poverty in the four Central Highlands provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai and Kon Tum, and the central provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai during the 2014-2018 period.

The objective is to improve the living conditions of residents in 130 poor communes through the diversification of livelihood strategies, as well as upgrading infrastructure in the target areas. About 540,000 ethnic people in the six provinces will benefit from the project.

In Dak Nong, the four districts of Krong No, Dak Song, Dak Glong and Tuy Duc will be provided with over VND430 billion (nearly US$19 million), of which 80% will be invested in building infrastructure facilities in villages and communes, developing sustainable livelihood strategies and improving communication.

In the 18 coming months, Dak Nong will invest VND92.25 billion (US$4.4 million) to carry out the project, including the construction of 43 works and 15 models on breeding and cultivation.
