The project, started at the beginning of this year with VND0.4 billion (US$19,000) of the city’s counterpart fund, aims to transfer advanced technologies and techniques and help train doctors, nurses and technicians at ophthalmic surgical facilities.

Workshops and training courses will be organised to improve capacity for around 160 doctors. Seventy nurses and 15 technicians will be trained to better maintain and operate opthalmic equipment and machines. As many of 140 patients will also receive screening and diagnostic consultations and treatment directions while around 60 patients will be operated and treated.

Earlier, Orbis International sponsored another project in Thua Thien-Hue province with non-refundable funds to develop opthalmic services for children in northern central provinces. The organisation contributed nearly VND20 billion (US$940,000) to the VND22.6 billion (US$1 million) project, which will be implemented from now to June 2018.
