Nhan Dan newspaper celebrates its 64th anniversary

Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, the central organ of the Communist Party of Vietnam, celebrated its 64th anniversary (March 11, 1951 - 2015) on March 10.

Addressing the ceremony, member of the Party Central Committee and Nhan Dan Editor-in-Chief Thuan Huu reviewed the history of Nhan Dan newspaper since its establishment in 1951 when the second National Party Congress held in Tuyen Quang province decided to establish it as the voice and the central organ of the Party, replacing Su That (The Truth) newspaper. The first issue of Nhan Dan was published on March 11, 1951.

The Editor-in-Chief also highlighted the important role played by the newspaper, which serves as an official information channel of the Party and a core force in the press and ideological front as well as representing the voice of the Party, State and people.

The newspaper currently has nearly 700 staff with nine publications including the Nhan Dan Daily, Nhan Dan Weekend, Nhan Dan Monthly, Thoi Nay (Present Day); Vietnamese, English, Chinese, French versions of Nhan Dan Online; and Nhan Dan Television.

Over the past six decades, Nhan Dan newspaper has been honoured with many noble commendations including the Ho Chi Minh Order (twice), the Golden Star Order, and the titles of Labour Hero and Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, he noted.

On this occasion, the Editorial Board of Nhan Dan Newspaper presented the Prime Minister’s Certificates of Merit to six collectives and ten individuals of the newspaper for their outstanding contributions to the cause of national construction and defence.

Also at the ceremony, the newspaper presented awards for the second press photography competition entitled ‘Morality, Talent and Beauty of Vietnam’.

The first prize went to Dang Khoa and Tuan Anh from Hanoi with the photo entitled ‘The Power of Justice in the East Sea’.

Launched from October 1, 2013 to February 28, 2015, the organising board received nearly 1,600 entries including 50 groups of photographs from professional and amateur journalists around the country. Nearly 150 outstanding photos were selected to be published in Nhan Dan newspaper.
