No Vietnamese dead in Kazan’s trade centre fire: Ministry

There were no Vietnamese citizen among the dead in the March 11 fire at the Admiral trade centre in Kazan city, Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, said the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 14.

Staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia arrived at the scene on March 11 and co-ordinated with local agencies to support Vietnamese nationals, the ministry said.

They also added that the Embassy on March 13 announced no Vietnamese were killed in the fire, but one Vietnamese suffered from a broken bone and was hospitalised on March 12 while two others had minor injuries.

The Embassy is working with Kazan authorities and Russia’s Federal Migration Service on measures to assist the local Vietnamese community, the ministry said.

The Admiral trade centre has 1,274 booths, including some from Vietnamese nationals.

The fire has so far claimed at least 16 lives while about 18 others are still under the collapsed, according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
