Politburo member Huynh, who is also Secretary of the Central Party Committee and Head of the Central Party Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education, made the statement at a ceremony held in Hanoi on April 20 to mark the 65th anniversary of the VJA (April 21, 1950).

While praising the contribution of the VJA to Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, he said that the association has gathered and improved professional qualifications for its members to thereby improve the quality and social effectiveness of the media.

In recent years, the VJA has actively strengthened its organisation and operations to encourage journalists to better perform political tasks assigned by the Party and State and constantly promote the position of the VJA, the Politburo member stressed.

He urged the VJA members at all levels to fully respect the function of revolutionary journalism, as well as principles and objectives of each press agency, to make practical solutions to improve the quality and social effectiveness of the media in serving national construction and defence.

Politburo member Huynh asked the VJA to focus on developing professional staff, promoting social responsibility and obligations of journalists in protecting the national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and being actively involved in finalisation of a legal framework for the development of Vietnamese journalism.

On the occasion, the VJA awarded certificates of merit to 24 collectives and 47 individuals who made significant contributions to the association’s emulative movements during the 2010-2015 period.
