Many support activities for children will be held across the nation during the 2015 Action Month for Children from June 1-30.

The action month will be officially launched in Hai Duong province on May 29 and lasts until June 30.

A range of activities including free cleft lip and palate repair surgeries, eye surgeries, screening for children with heart disease symptoms and support operations for children with congenital heart diseases, will be carried out by the National Fund for Vietnamese Children. In 2015, the fund is expected to support nearly 6,000 children in difficult circumstances across the country with total funding of VND76 billion (US$3.5 million) mobilised from domestic and international resources.

During the month, localities plan to organise cultural and sporting activities, in addition to providing entertainment for children. Life skills classes, personal self-defence courses in prevention of injuries, and swimming lessons will be provided throughout June.

In particular, children's forums at all levels will be held on the occasion. The MoLISA will also hold a meeting between the State President and representatives of children with special circumstances on International Children's Day (June 1).

According to Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Hong Lan, in recent years, four groups of children's fundamental rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child have been positively implemented in Vietnam. The theme of this year’s event aims to let children raise their voices on issues related to them and their feedback will be considered, the deputy minister stressed.

The year 2015 is the 21st consecutive year the MoLISA has deployed the event on a national scale, serving as an annual media campaign to call on social support, draw authorities’ attention, raise public awareness and change behaviours towards bettering children's rights.
