The section is under the 105km Hanoi-Hai Phong highway running through Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Hai Phong and commenced in May 2008.

The completed section is 33m wide with six lanes and a maximum speed of 120 km per hour. Toll collection will begin in early June this year.

An additional 76km section from Hung Yen to Hai Phong will be completed in August and the whole highway will be completed in late December this year, according to the Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Joint Stock Company (VIDIFI) - the investor of the project.

The Hanoi-Hai Phong highway is an important route, contributing to connecting northern key economic zones with industrial zones, sea ports, and Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong.

The project is being carried out under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model with a total investment of VND30 trillion (US$1.38 billion) which is expected to be recovered in 30 years.
