NDO - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid a visit on May 28 to Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha Thich Pho Tue on the occasion of Buddha’s birthday, also known as Vesak.

Presenting a bouquet of fresh flowers to Supreme Patriarch Thich Pho Tue, the deputy PM extended his best wishes to Vietnamese Buddhism’s highest leader and other Buddhist dignitaries.

He praised the contributions of Buddhism to the country’s development throughout history, highlighting it as a religion of peace with a long patriotic tradition and that Vietnam’s success today is thanks in part to the Buddhist congregation, monks, nuns and followers.

Deputy PM Phuc reiterated the Party and State’s policy of ensuring freedom of religion and belief, noting that all citizens will be given favourable conditions to practise their religion.

For his part, Supreme Patriarch Thich Pho Tue thanked the Party and State for their consideration to Buddhists on this important feast day, adding that the sangha will build on its traditions to make more contributions to the country.

On this occasion, the Supreme Patriarch gave Deputy PM Phuc a book on Buddhist wisdom, hoping that he will fulfil the mission entrusted by the Party and State.
